Apple shares update on 2025 App Store success
Ahead of WWDC next week, Apple has a new press release out today touting the benefits of the App Store ecosystem for developers.
“Developers are the heartbeat of the App Store, and this year’s incredible milestone is a testament to their boundless creativity,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We are deeply committed to providing developers with the tools, technologies, and trusted platforms they need to build for the future. Together, developers are creating apps that enrich the lives of users around the world.”
Here are some noteworthy numbers from the report:
- App Store ecosystem generated $1.4 trillion in developer billings and sales in 2025
- On more than 90 percent of that revenue, developers paid no commission to Apple
- Almost 3x growth in the App Store ecosystem since 2019
- Apps using consumer-facing AI features saw 4x more growth in billings than other apps
If you’re wondering what the term “App Store ecosystem” specifically means, here’s Apple’s explanation:
The term App Store ecosystem refers to iOS apps downloaded through the App Store. For simplicity and to be consistent with language used in previous studies, it also includes a small number of downloads from alternative app marketplaces or direct downloads from developers’ websites that can occur in some jurisdictions, as those apps continue to rely on services provided by Apple.
