While CarPlay supports hundreds of apps, Apple Weather isn’t one of them. The good news is that starting today, The Weather Channel’s Storm Radar app for iPhone now works with CarPlay.
Storm Radar is among a growing list of CarPlay weather apps
The Weather Channel has been building out Storm Radar to be a first-class citizen on Apple platforms this year.
iPhone and iPad versions added an AI-powered forecast feature earlier this year. An Apple Watch app followed.
A new update released today goes even further with a dedicated CarPlay app. Here’s how the app looks:
Storm Radar for CarPlay includes a map of your location. You can toggle between satellite view and the default map background. Data layers include radar, clouds, and precipitation.
Navigation is also a core part of the CarPlay app. Storm Radar displays your current weather conditions alongside the ETA and weather conditions expected at your destination.
The Weather Channel adds that CarPlay support includes “automatic rerouting and weather alerts along your route that refresh as you drive.”
Today’s Storm Radar app update also includes new home screen widgets, a redesigned Apple Watch app, and much more. You can see the full release notes for version 4.0.19 on the App Store.
