The section of Apple Park Visitor Center that's housed its VR exhibition for almost a decade has been temporarily closed for an unspecified refurbishment.
Back in 2017, long before the Apple Vision Pro was announced, Apple added an augmented reality feature to its visitor center's Exhibition Space. It was a model of Apple Park, and at the time was designed to be looked at through an iPad which would overlay details of the real building.
Now the Exhibition Space has been closed, with Apple saying that there is an "update in progress."
"Please pardon our appearance while we improve our store," continues the notice on the center's website. "During this time, the Exhibition Space is temporarily closed."
A similar notice appears on the wall of the center, along with the words "We are open." At present, the store is otherwise operating normally, and it's still possible to book demos of the Apple Vision Pro there.
The model of Apple Park in exhibition portion of the store is large, and it does take up a lot of what could otherwise be useful retail space. But if the model is being removed, it's not clear why it's happening now when it's been there for nine years.
There is the fact that subsequently AR and VR demos will have been performed in the store's separate Apple Vision Pro area. Plus anecdotal evidence from AppleInsider staff says that such demo areas in other stores are being used less for Apple Vision Pro sales and more for general customer seating.
