On this week's episode of the Smart Home Insider podcast, we round up the latest rumors surrounding Apple's smart home display, as well as cover the news.

Leading off the news portion of the episode were a pair of stories on Sonos. We saw a new product hit the FCC, as well as a new feature launch.

Codenamed "Gambit," the new Sonos soundbar appears to be a successor to the Beam (Gen 2). No other information is known about the mid-range speaker, but it is presumed to debut in September alongside the rumored Sonos Ace Ultra headphones.

Otherwise, a new update hit the Sonos app that brings a long-awaited new feature: Live Activities. This interactive interface appears when you start playing content from the Sonos app directly on your Sonos system.

It shows the name of the track, volume buttons, and playback controls. This is exclusively for playing back content from within the Sonos app versus AirPlay but has been a long-requested feature from users.

Homey is rolling out new solar energy monitoring with its latest update. The smart home platform can now forecast your solar production as well as estimate how much you'll earn selling it back to the grid.

Eufy has a new security camera system available, the NVR E50, which is designed for round-the-clock coverage of your home or work. It comes with either 4 or 8 cameras, optional hard drives, and can expand to 16 cameras with a PoE switch or Wi-Fi module.

The cameras can record 24/7 and have local AI processing and no subscription fees. The cameras are bullet-style PoE cameras with a fixed 2K camera on top, and a 4K PTZ camera with a 360-degree field of view and 5X digital zoom.

TCL has a new Matter smart lock on the market, touting features such as palm vein recognition, Matter-over-Thread, local mode, and auto-unlock. It's a compelling new option in a growing market and good to see TCL adopting the Matter standard.

Shelly has launched its fourth-generation flood detector. This is a battery-powered sensor with both Wi-Fi and Zigbee built in for easy placement.

If you use Wi-Fi, you can use Matter to connect directly to Apple Home. The sensor can last up to 2 years on battery with an onboard siren to alert you when there's water detected.

Finally for the news, we share a PSA from the FBI regarding cheap Android TV streaming boxes. A number of devices being sold online were being preloaded with malware at the factory and used in carrying out massive botnet attacks.

It's a reminder not to put devices from unknown origins on your network. The FBI warns that the devices should be removed from your network immediately, perhaps good timing with a new Apple TV 4K on the way.

The remainder of the episode was devoted to the latest Apple leaks. The RC of macOS Tahoe 26.7 had a slew of references to unreleased Apple devices.

We walk through those references and what they likely mean, before honing in on the smart home ones. They include new Apple TV, new Siri Remote, HomePod mini, a tabletop robot, Apple's new home hub, various sensors, and more.

The episode wraps with a roundup of all the rumors surrounding Apple's smart home display. There's a lot we likely know, possibly only a few weeks from launch including the form factor, features, and specs.
