Apple's smart glasses predicted for 2027, upgraded Apple Vision Pro 2028

Apple is, once again, forecast to bring out Apple Glass by the end of 2027, while it also works on a brand new headset that takes after the new Meta VR Glasses.

So far, Apple's head-mounted computing efforts have consisted of the Apple Vision Pro and accessing Siri through AirPods. However, you're still going to have a long wait before being able to try the ever-rumored smart glasses Apple has been persistently working on.

In Sunday's "Power On" newsletter for Bloomberg, Mark Gurman discusses the new Meta VR Glasses and Apple's adjacent work on smart glasses, including Apple Glass. That is, alongside other concepts like AirPods with camera sensors and a new screen-free fitness band.

For the smart glasses, Gurman warns that Apple has a goal of releasing it in some form by the end of 2027.

This reiterates a frequently-raised timeframe for the smart glasses. In September 2025, Gurman said Apple Glass without AR was expected in late 2026 or early 2027, while analyst Ming-Chi Kuo forecast a late 2027 shipping schedule back in June 2025.

Earlier in 2026, a May Gurman newsletter changed expectations for the eyewear to a late 2027 launch.

Current speculation for Apple's glasses is for a first release similar to Meta's Ray-Ban partnership, being glasses with audio, camera, and smart capabilities but without a display for video feedback. A later release would introduce the display element.

More Apple Visions

Gurman's newsletter also mentioned about the woes of the Apple Vision Pro, and touched upon its future plans. This included the Apple Vision team working on a "completely revamped headset."

Referred to as codename N224, it apparently involves engineers exploring four concepts for the headset. This includes offloading some of the internal components from the headset to another component, possibly like a puck.

However, seemingly burned by the tethered battery concept in the Apple Vision Pro, some senior staff at Apple consider this to be a poor user experience. An all-in-one design is more preferable, but doing so while being cheaper and lighter is going to be an engineering challenge.

There's no guarantee of it launching, with the project apparently on "life support." If it does get a release, Gurman speculates a launch in late 2028 or early 2029.
