With Apple HomeView arriving November 13, you can get ready by checking which apps on your iPhone already support the CarPlay features that work on Apple's new smart display. Here's how to do it.

Apple's HomeView starts at $299 and brings music, video, smart home controls, and other features to a 7-inch screen. However, the device doesn't have its own App Store, so you can't simply download third-party apps directly onto it.

Instead, Apple is using existing CarPlay support for third-party audio and video apps. Developers don't have to modify those apps for HomeView, which means you may already have compatible software installed on your iPhone.

The easiest way to check is through your iPhone's CarPlay settings. There's a catch, though, because you'll need to have previously connected your iPhone to a vehicle that supports CarPlay.

How to find CarPlay apps installed on your iPhone

Apple maintains a list of installed CarPlay apps in Settings. It's primarily intended for customizing a vehicle's dashboard, but it's also a useful starting point for finding audio apps that could work with HomeView.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Select CarPlay.
  4. Choose your vehicle from the list.
  5. Tap Customize to see your compatible apps.

The screen shows apps currently included on your CarPlay Home Screen, along with supported apps you've removed from it. You can restore hidden apps by tapping the plus button or change their order by dragging the handles beside their names.

You don't need to be connected to your vehicle to inspect the list. However, if you've never paired your iPhone with CarPlay, you won't have a vehicle to select or an equivalent list of compatible apps to examine.

Look for music, podcast, audiobook, and other audio apps. Those are the most straightforward candidates because Apple has confirmed that CarPlay audio apps also work with HomeView.

Video support is less straightforward. CarPlay video apps depend on vehicle compatibility, so they might not appear in your car's customization list even if they support HomeView.

And while navigation and parking apps may appear alongside your music apps, Apple hasn't confirmed that every CarPlay category will work on HomeView. The list is a useful starting point rather than a definitive HomeView compatibility checker.

How to find more CarPlay apps in the App Store

Finding new compatible apps should be simple, but Apple's App Store doesn't provide a dedicated filter for CarPlay support. As of October 14, 2026 there is no separate HomeView category to help narrow things down.

For now, your best option is to open the App Store, tap Search, and search for CarPlay.

You'll find apps related to driving, navigation, music, podcasts, and other services. Unfortunately, search results aren't limited to apps that actually support CarPlay, so you'll have to check individual listings before installing anything.

For HomeView, focus on apps that explicitly mention CarPlay audio or video support. Simply finding an app in a CarPlay search doesn't mean it'll work with Apple's smart display.

Video apps deserve particular attention because, as we've previously reported, HomeView doesn't run conventional video apps natively. Playback depends on supported CarPlay functionality or streaming from another Apple device.

There's no need to rearrange your CarPlay icons or reinstall supported apps just for HomeView. Checking what you already have and finding any missing media apps is a practical way to prepare while waiting for the new display to arrive.
