iA Writer 8 brings Liquid Glass design, clear icon support, more

iA Writer, the lightweight text editor for Apple devices, is out with a new Liquid Glass design-focused update for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

The new iA Writer 8 looks more at home on iOS 26 and macOS Tahoe (or iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate)

iA Writer version 8.0 for iPhone, iPad, and Mac now features a “refreshed interface” that will look more at home on iOS 26 (and iOS 27) as well as macOS Tahoe (and macOS Golden Gate).

Each version includes “an app icon that matches your system settings.”

iA Writer on the Mac previously featured a custom toggle for changing the app icon to match light and dark system appearance. Now the icon appearance is automatically set to mirror your system-wide app icon appearance settings. The new icons also better honor Apple’s “clear” appearance options.

In addition to Liquid Glass design changes, iA Writer includes these four updates across iPhone, iPad, and Mac:

• Document Outline: navigate your documents using Quick Search. Type to jump to any heading, filename, or text search result.
• Command Palette: instant access to formatting actions, export, and authorship.
• Library: hide dates and text excerpts to browse your files with a new compact layout. Favorite files are easy to spot with a star icon.
• Authorship: menus show author colors so you know who contributed to the document.
