Apple’s Mail app in iOS 27 promises to offer the feature upgrade that’s been at the top of my wishlist for years: search that “just works.”
iOS 27 overhauls search in Apple Mail to make it more relevant and accurate

Apple’s Mail app has long been plagued by lackluster search.
I suspect that statement won’t be controversial at all among years-long users of the app. In fact, some might say “lackluster” is too kind a word to use.
But iOS 27 could finally bring the Apple Mail search upgrade the app deserves.
From Apple’s website detailing iOS 27’s new features:
More relevant search in Mail. A new ranking system brings the most relevant results to the top to help you find what you need right away — even if it’s buried deep in your inbox.
I’m using the iOS 27 beta, and it provides a bit more clarity around how this new ranking system will benefit users.
When you first open search in iOS 27’s Mail app, there’s a banner at the top that highlights “Expanded Search Results.” It explains: “Mail can look for more results based on what you mean, not just the words you type.”

Essentially, Apple is bringing search into the 21st century. Or you could say, it’s making search work the way it always should have.
iOS 27 just arrived in beta, so it’s too early to judge whether the company succeeded.
But since the new and improved search is likely tied to overall Siri and AI upgrades, I’m hopeful that by the time iOS 27 launches this fall, Mail will finally offer the search feature users deserve.
