iOS 27 launches for all users next week, and will be followed not long after by the first iOS 27.1 beta and public launch. Here’s when to expect iOS 27.1’s arrival.
iOS 27.1 launches in October before iPhone Duo release, with beta in the next week or so
If you’re not running Apple’s beta already, there’s a huge iPhone software update coming next week.
iOS 27 launches this Monday, September 14 and is packed with new features like Siri AI.
But if you’ve been running the iOS 27 beta all summer, you’re likely already looking ahead to iOS 27.1.
Apple is expected to debut the first iOS 27.1 beta within about a week of iOS 27 launching. Here’s what we’ve seen in recent years:
- iOS 26.1 beta released 7 days after iOS 26
- iOS 17.1 beta released 9 days after iOS 17
- iOS 16.1 beta released 2 days after iOS 16
I excluded iOS 18 because Apple launched its 18.1 beta extra early during the summer as a way to test Apple Intelligence.
So the typical pattern points to iOS 27.1 beta 1 arriving as early as next week, or as late as the week of September 21.
What about the public launch?
Apple confirmed this week that iOS 27.1 will ship by October 23—and likely a few days earlier.
Its iPhone Duo press release says, “iPhone Duo will be available with iOS 27.1.” Since iPhone Duo arrives in users’ hands on October 23, the software update must be released by then.
This will actually be slightly earlier than we’d normally expect. Starting with 2025, in the last four years Apple’s x.1 updates launched on: November 3, October 28, October 25, and October 24.
Based on iOS 27.1 shipping with iPhone Duo, the most likely public release date for the software is anywhere from Monday, October 19 to Wednesday, October 21.
It’s unknown what all will be included in the update other than iPhone Duo-exclusive changes. But we’ll keep you posted after the first beta arrives.
