Apple's first major update to iOS 27 has arrived, with iOS 27.2 bringing FaceTime Dual Capture and an Apple Music logo change, but no Apple Health revamp.

Following four developer beta cycles and one release candidate build, Apple is now making the update for iOS 27.2 available to the public. The update is available to all iPhones that are compatible with iOS 27 at the time of its launch.

The upgrade is unusual in that it jumps over iOS 27.1 in favor of iOS 27.2. The reality is that Apple has been using iOS 27.1 with the iPhone Duo due to its foldable dual-screen design, and has kept that model separated from the main group for launch.

With the actual release of iOS 27.2, both iPhone Duo and regular iPhones get the update:

  • The release build of iOS 27.2 is 24B119 for the standard iPhones, replacing the release candidate 24B115.
  • The release build of iOS 27.2 is 24B91020 for the iPhone Duo.

What's new in iOS 27.2

The first developer beta introduced a redesigned Health app, which would work alongside the health sensing systems of the Apple Watch Ultra 4 and the Apple Watch Series 12. However, by the fourth developer beta, Apple removed it entirely, intending to install it later.

The first beta also had expanded Siri AI localization, which made it able to work in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish.

FaceTime benefited from Dual Capture support, so that users can share video feeds from both front-facing and rear iPhone cameras on compatible models.

The Apple TV app also gained profiles, matching tvOS 26.2 but on the iPhone. Existing Apple TV profiles could be used, with the app also allowing you to create brand new ones, too.

The second developer beta also included the initial workings for an AutoLock security feature. If the iPhone detected multiple signals, such as a sudden and sharp acceleration, the inaccessibility of a paired Apple Watch, or a prolonged loss of network activity, the iPhone would automatically lock.

However, at the time of that beta, the iPhone would detect the signals in the background, but wouldn't actually lock the device. It seems this was to test that the feature detected threats and avoided false positives.

Aside from the loss of the redesigned Apple Health app, the fourth developer beta also removed all color from the Apple Music icon, making it a black note on a white background. There was also a new setting for HomePods, with a new slider to Lock Controls to prevent touch interactions with the smart home device.
