Presenting over AirPlay in iPadOS 27 risks exposing private windows to your audience whenever you switch apps. There's no fix, and it may be a "feature."
AirPlay in iPadOS 27 now shows the entire iPad screen when presenters switch apps, potentially revealing private notes. This replaces the presentation on the external display with windows the presenter may not intend to share.
The behavior occurs with multiple windows open, whether or not Stage Manager is enabled. Tapping outside the presenting app exposes other content.
That was the case for Teddy Svoronos, a teacher who noticed the issue presenting from his iPad.
"This means that my students see all my notes on who I want to call on, or poll results that should be hidden from them," he writes. "They also get distracted from what we're learning by all these jarring windows popping up and disappearing. If you're presenting at a big conference, it's extremely embarrassing."
Reports have also surfaced on Reddit, with user try1231 showing the issue in a short video. AppleInsider staffers have also reproduced the behavior.
Previously, iPadOS 26 allowed users to transfer presentation control by swiping up and selecting a supported app from the Dock. Now, it hands control to the most recently tapped app, disrupting multitasking while presenting over AirPlay.
Recovery varies by app, with Goodnotes restoring its presenter view when the user taps back into its window. Keynote exits the presentation entirely, while PowerPoint requires users to restart the presentation before continuing.
We're not certain that this is a bug, given the consistency of the behavior. It certainly isn't the fault of the app developers.
As always, if this is something you're impacted by, we recommend that you report it to Apple.
