The iPhone 20 will be a glass-heavy device reminiscent of the iPhone Air but with a more rounded appearance, a Weibo leaker has reiterated.
While we are all waiting for the iPhone 18 to come out of Apple in the very near future, the rumor mill is still infatuated about devices that are still far from launch. With the 20th-anniversary iPhone anticipated in 2027, speculation is rife for what that model will bring.
In a Sunday post to Weibo, leaker Fixed-Focus Digital has called back to a post about the iPhone 10 they made in July. In Sunday's update, the leaker claims about the appearance and thermals of the model.
According to the leaker, the iPhone 20 will use the same glass assembly as the iPhone Air. It won't be a direct copy, as it will instead use more rounded materials, if a machine translation of the post is to be believed.
The leaker doesn't go into detail, but adds that it apparently saved Apple money on the cost of production.
They do go on to add that the heat dissipation and thinness of the model have also been improved. Though, again, they do so without saying how at all.
Rumors repeating themselves
When it comes to Fixed-Focus Digital, they generally have a mixed track record, much like other Weibo-based rumor sources. They have some hits, like the name of the iPhone 16e, but also a lot of misses.
In this particular case, the post doesn't really offer that much new to the overall iPhone 20 picture, aside from a cost saving for Apple. Apple would be fighting for suppliers to make cost-cuts anyway.
The previously mentioned July post from Fixed Focus Digital asserted that Apple had "returned to glass" for the model. Apple was also going to process parts using methods similar to the first-generation Air, too.
In May, another Weibo leaker by the name of Digital Chat Station said Apple had decided to try for a quad-curved OLED display, continuing claims about the screen. Earlier claims again discussed the curvature at length.
The new comment about heat dissipation is also something that Fixed Focus Digital brought up on August 2. At the time, they said the model will have a heat dissipation plate that was an inch larger than in previous models.
In the same post, they added that would be chiefly made from glass and have an iPhone Air-style mid-frame and thinness.
While we at AppleInsider have a duty to report and comment on rumors and speculation for upcoming Apple products, and to judge their accuracy, Weibo leakers don't have the same remit.
It's going to be a year before we see the iPhone 20, and we expect the rumors to improve as that launch gets closer. Here's hoping the Weibo leakers improve too.
