A new report claims that not only is Apple aiming to add Face ID to a future iPhone Duo, but that it may not need a notch or cutout.

While the first iPhone Duo appears to be something of a hit, it is lacking the key Face ID feature from other iPhones. It would be startling if Apple weren't working to add this, but according to Bloomberg, it's coming.

Specifically, it will come as soon as the next generation of the iPhone Duo. It is to be Face ID as we know it, but the sensor will be under the display.

Apple is believed to have been working on under-display Face ID for some time. The current iPhone Duo actually features Apple's first-ever under-display camera system, so it seems feasible that Face ID could be next.

That under-display camera in the opened-out iPhone Duo, though, means that the device has two selfie cameras. So regardless of whether the iPhone Duo is open or closed, users can make video FaceTime calls.

However, speaking on his "Power On" podcast, Bloomberg writer Mark Gurman claims that iPhone Duo 2 will solely have Face ID on its front screen.

Reportedly versions of the iPhone Duo 2 are already being tested internally at Apple. It's not clear, though, whether those will feature Face ID, as the report also claims that Apple is experimenting with bringing back the Action Button.

This was the one exterior control that was removed from the iPhone Duo and it is hard to see where there would be space to feature it. Nonetheless, even though it appeared to be the end of the Action Button, Apple is reportedly at least considering its return.
