Apple's incoming CEO John Ternus has joined Tim Cook and Eddy Cue at the invitation-only Sun Valley retreat where deals worth billions can be agreed on a handshake.

Tim Cook and Eddy Cue are both regulars at the annual event, held in Sun Valley, Idaho, by investment firm Allen & Company. This year they arrived as usual over the weekend, but as spotted by Forbes, they were joined on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, by John Ternus.

It's not clear whether this is Ternus's first time attending the camp, but if it isn't, it's certainly his first since being announced as the next Apple CEO.

There has been no announcement of his attending, nor any reports of what the Apple executives are there to discuss. There won't be, either, as this so-called summer camp for billionaires is famous for its privacy.

Over time, it has become known that deals such as Jeff Bezos buying The Washington Post were agreed at the camp, as was Verizon's purchase of Yahoo. No specifics are ever publicized at the time, however, and it's meant to be a retreat where technology, media and finance executives can openly discuss strategies.

Allen & Company does not promote the event, nor does it release a schedule. There may be formal meetings, but the retreat is better known for discussions taking place over meals, bike rides, and even hikes.

There isn't even a published guest list, but alongside the Apple contingent, people seen arriving for the 2026 retreat include:

  • Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI
  • Bob Iger and Josh D'Amaro of Disney
  • Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn
  • Jeff Bezos of Amazon
  • Sheryl Sandberg, formerly COO of Meta

The week-long retreat in the Idaho mountains has run annually since 1983. Tim Cook has been attending for around two decades.
