Months after Apple launched the latest Mac Studio, it is finally taking orders for one more configuration, the 512GB RAM M5 Ultra. It's extremely costly.
Apple launched the M5 Ultra and M5 Max editions of the Mac Studio in August 2026, but revealed in barely a footnote that there was one configuration coming later. Even as Apple was saying that the Mac Studio could be configured to have 512GB RAM, it actually couldn't. Until now.
As of now, pre-orders are open for what could be the best Mac ever made. It's the M5 Ultra Mac Studio, and it can now come with 96GB RAM and all the way up to 512GB.
The base M5 Ultra comes with 96GB RAM, 30-core CPU, and 64-core GPU, plus 1TB storage, for $5,499. The M5 Ultra edition can also be bought with a 36-core CPU and 80-core GPU for a further $1,300.
Upgrading the storage from 1TB to the maximum 16TB costs an additional $7,500. Only the 36-core CPU and 80-core GPU model can take 512GB of RAM.
So in August 2026 when the M5 Ultra model was announced, it was possible to spend up to $18,299 on one. Now Apple has made the most powerful Mac ever cost $29,799.
Don't expect this one to sell out as quickly as the iPhone Duo. But if you need this performance, you don't want to wait any longer than you already have.
The first pre-orders for this configuration will arrive on December 3.
