Apple has quietly updated the education pricing for the MacBook Neo, with the budget model now starting at a higher $649.
The MacBook Neo started life as an exceptional bargain in the MacBook range, priced at $599. While the price to the general public has already risen a lot thanks to the global RAM crisis, the education pricing discount has also shrunk.
Apple's education pricing for the MacBook Neo started off at $499 but rose in June to $599. Now, first spotted by MacRumors, education customers will have to pay $649 for the same base model.
The education price applies to students and people working in educational fields, such as schools. It's usually a discounted price versus the one charged to the general public.
However, the discount is now significantly smaller. The June price hike for all other customers brought the base MacBook Neo from $599 to $699.
Though the initial education price hike maintained the $100 difference, the latest change makes the discount just $50.
The MacBook Neo is still the cheapest MacBook anyone can buy brand new from Apple. It's just not quite as much of a deal as it was at launch.
