Cape Fear premieres this week on Apple TV, a new psychological thriller inspired by Martin Scorsese’s 1991 film. Reviews debuted today, and it sounds like Cape Fear has all the makings of the first must-watch show of the summer.
Cape Fear delivers thrilling ride, per reviews, anchored by standout Javier Bardem performance

This week Apple TV premieres one of its highest-profile shows of the year: Cape Fear. It centers on an attorney couple who are terrified to find that the killer they put behind bars is set free, and wants vengeance.
Cape Fear debuts this Friday, June 5 with two episodes, then weekly releases through July 31.
Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg executive produced the show, which stars Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, and Patrick Wilson.
Based on the first reviews, it sounds like Cape Fear delivers a very fun ride. Here are some excerpts:
- The Guardian: “a masterclass in tension, in taking things right to the edge of credulity but never over and it never forgets the power of the jump scare”
- Collider: “one of Apple TV’s strongest originals to date“
- Variety: “A worthy and disturbing psychological thriller”
Critics offer universal praise for Javier Bardem’s powerful performance that anchors the series. TheWrap says: ”Javier Bardem plays Cady to deranged perfection, walking into this series with such ferocity that his presence is felt even when he is nowhere near the frame”
The main complaint reviewers note is that with 10 hour-long episodes, the series feels longer than it needs to be. Though The Hollywood Reporter admits that Cape Fear “might be one of those shows that benefits from weekly viewing and not the bingeing done by critics.”
