Apple's installed base has surpassed 2.5 billion active devices worldwide, CEO John Ternus confirmed during the company's November 2 earnings call, with the total reaching another record across all major product categories and regions.
Ternus reiterated the 2.5 billion figure while discussing Apple's fiscal fourth-quarter results. Although the installed base continues to grow, the company didn't provide a more precise updated device count.
Apple first surpassed 2.5 billion devices in January 2026, up roughly 150 million from the 2.35 billion reported in 2025.
The installed base includes active iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, and other products. It measures devices rather than individual customers, meaning someone who owns multiple Apple products contributes more than one device to the total.
Apple's growing device base supports Services revenue
The expanding installed base gives Apple a larger potential audience for Services, including iCloud, Apple Music, Apple TV, and the App Store. Unlike hardware purchases, subscriptions and other digital services can generate revenue long after customers buy their devices.
Services revenue reached a record $31.57 billion during the September quarter, up nearly 10% from $28.75 billion a year earlier. Apple's latest earnings also showed total revenue climbing 12% to $114.5 billion, while iPhone revenue reached a September-quarter record of $57.58 billion.
In July, Apple reported more than 1.5 billion paid subscriptions across its platform, including Apple's own services and third-party offerings.
The figure represents subscriptions rather than individual customers, so it doesn't directly correspond to the number of active devices. The growing installed base provides a foundation for future Services revenue, but Apple hasn't disclosed which products contributed most to its latest increase.
