Fairly obviously, the iPhone Air 2 is expected to adopt much of the iPhone Duo engineering, making it thinner. What's less obvious, is that the battery is expected to be at least as good.

That's according to a post on the Korean Naver blog by the familiar "yeux1122" account that has been responsible for multiple leaks in recent years.

If accurate, this news means that the iPhone Air 2 will measure around 5.2mm thick, compared to the iPhone Air's 5.6mm measurement. Notably, the iPhone Duo comes in at the same 5.2mm when open.

The prospect of a future iPhone Air becoming even thinner than the previous model isn't a surprise. But a previous report claiming an increased battery capacity makes this report all the more interesting.

Thinner phone, bigger battery

Normally, making an iPhone thinner would mean reducing its battery capacity. But the leaker claims that won't be the case this time around.

"Battery capacity will actually increase (utilizing the high-density battery found in the "Pro" model,)" the report says via machine translation.

If that is indeed the case, it may be possible for Apple to increase battery capacity without increasing the dimensions of the original iPhone Air. But the suggestion that the iPhone Air 2 could be even thinner while boosting battery capacity is a different prospect entirely.

At this point, it's important to remember that this leaker has a mixed track record when it comes to pre-announced product details. With that in mind, while it's possible Apple's battery tech could make this all possible, we'd prefer the report to be backed up by another source.

The iPhone Air 2 is expected to be unveiled in early 2027, possibly alongside the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.
