Razer Travel Case Folio cleverly combines keyboard case with tablet stand [Review] ★★★★★

The Razer Travel Case Folio is a combination keyboard case/stand created for gamers who need a keyboard while they game on the go with an iPad, Steam Deck or even an iPhone. And it’s also useful when you need to get some work done on your tablet.

Put a Razer Joro or an Apple Magic Keyboard into the folio, then deploy its built-in kickstand and it’s ready to prop up your tablet, gaming handheld, etc. for fun or productivity.

I tested the new accessory with my mobile setup. Here’s what I found.

Razer made the Joro as a slim, lightweight keyboard that works equally well for gaming and general productivity. It’s designed to be portable, so a case for the accessory just makes sense. Hence the Razer Travel Case Folio.

But the company didn’t stop there. It upgraded the keyboard case with a stand that can hold tablets up to 13 inches in size.

Just so there’s no confusion, Razer sells the Joro separately from the Travel Case Folio. And the case/stand works with other keyboards, including the Apple Magic Keyboard.

Ready to take your keyboard on the go

Cases for your iPad that combine a keyboard with a stand are great, but some people prefer another option: a slim case for their tablet and a separate keyboard. The Razer Travel Case Folio is made for that second group.

You can put your Magic Keyboard inside and take it on the go where it’s ready to use with your iPad. Or maybe you prefer a Joro keyboard and a Steam Deck.

This is actually quite a simple piece of kit, though it’s well designed. It’s a piece of polyurethane “leather” designed to wrap around a keyboard and then close magnetically. This does a reasonable job protecting the keys on your keyboard when you shove it into a backpack. Just note that the sides of the keyboard are not covered.

Folded around a Joro, the Razer Travel Case Folio is 12.1 inches wide, 4.7 inches tall and 1.0 inches tall. The case alone weighs 0.65 pounds.

The inside has a microfiber suede lining so your keyboard won’t get scratched up. And it kept the keyboard from sliding around while I used it.

Speaking of keeping your keyboard from getting scratched up, the magnetic clasp seems quite strong. I carried this folio case around in a backpack during testing and never fell open.

There are cutouts in the exterior so you can charge a Magic Keyboard or Joro without taking it out of the case.

And it’s a stand, too!

Put the Razer Travel Case Folio on a table, flip open the cover, fold out the kickstand and you have a convenient travel stand for your tablet or Steam Deck.

I tested the accessory with my 13-inch iPad Pro, and the stand solidly supported the tablet in either landscape or portrait mode. Even better, the kickstand is adjustable, so I can angle my computer screen straight toward me.

Key to the design is an upright plastic strip that holds the bottom edge of the tablet firmly in place. It won’t slip forward, and doesn’t push down on the keyboard. The tablet doesn’t even touch the keyboard.

What that means is if you’re playing a game that doesn’t need a keyboard, or want to watch a video, you can completely move the keyboard out of the way. The stand doesn’t need it.

I mostly tested the Razer Travel Case Folio with a Joro keyboard while writing this review on my iPad Pro, but I didn’t overlook gaming. I’m in the middle of Oceanhorn 3, and the stand performed very well.

Razer Travel Case Folio review: Final thoughts

I like to keep my iPad Pro in a minimal case — it needs some protection, but I won’t put up with much additional bulk. But I need a keyboard, too, and adding a separate one, along with a stand, is an ideal productivity upgrade for me. In short, Razer’s latest mobile offering fits what I need.
