Only hours before Apple's iPhone event, a final set of rumors paints a clear picture of what Apple's foldable will be and what it may be called — iPhone Duo.

Apple wanted a sub-$2,000 price point for its first foldable iPhone, but the AI-driven RAM shortages and other supply chain constraints pushed prices higher. While some costs can be eaten through Apple's usual means, some had to be passed to customers.

According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple's foldable will be called iPhone Duo and start at $2,000 with 256GB of storage. Higher storage tiers will be much more costly to subsidize the entry price.

The prices could easily climb to $3,000 for those seeking 2TB of storage. The rumor also says initial shipments will be "as early as October," suggesting September may be off the table entirely.

Even though a previous report suggested Apple had abandoned Apple Pencil support for iPhone Duo, this one says it's coming, confidently.

Another departure from previous rumors asserts that there will be only two colors: white and dark blue. Many thought there would be either white and black or some third color option, but none so far suggested dropping black.

Last minute event updates

This last-minute set of rumors seems rather definitive, suggesting insider information provided the last push of confidence. The details provided are much of what was expected, with just a few surprises.

The iPhone Duo, what was previously called iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold, will debut during the Apple Event later Wednesday. It will be revealed alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, AirPods 5, Apple Watch Series 12, and Apple Watch Ultra 4.

Those other products aren't expected to see many surprises, if any, according to this report. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to get variable aperture, while both sizes will see $100 price increases at the base storage tier.

Apple Watch upgrades will be iterative with a focus on a revamped Apple Health app, and nothing was said of new sensors. AirPods 5 will focus on vastly improved ANC and come in two varieties like the AirPods 4 do today.

Don't expect any other hardware like the new Apple TV 4K or Home Hub.
