Apple TV is now the winner of Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, and finally Tony awards, and it made this EGOT status in about half the time it took Netflix.
Originally an Apple TV musical comedy, "Schmigadoon!" has become a stage hit, and in May 2026 was nominated for multiple Tony Awards. It's now won four of them, including the most prestigious ones:
- Best Musical
- Best Book of a Musical
- Best Original Score
- Best Orchestrations
The stage show is based on the Apple TV series and in part the story of its first season. Apple cancelled the show after a second run, and stage show producer Christine Schwarzmann gently called the company out for the decision.
"I think I should start by thanking Apple TV for canceling the third season of 'Schmigadoon' the TV show," she said in her speech, "because without them we couldn't have picked it up and ran with it."
Both the stage and TV versions of the story were produced by Lorne Michaels' production company. According to Deadline, Michaels also spoke after the event about the history of the show.
"[It has] gone through many iterations, but I think this is the best version of it ever," he said.
EGOT status
Apple TV began in late 2019, and it was then in 2020 that its run of awards began. That was with actor Billy Crudup winning Apple's first Emmy for "The Morning Show." Multiple Emmys followed, but then in 2022, the film "CODA" made Apple the first streamer to win a Best Picture Oscar.
Next in February 2026, Apple won a Best Country Solo Performance Grammy for Chris Stapleton's song on the "F1: The Movie" soundtrack.
So from nothing to EGOT took Apple about six years. In comparison, while Netflix also has EGOT status, it took that streamer around 12 years.
