Soulver just rolled out its biggest update in 7 years, the first major update since becoming a universal “notepad, meet calculator” app for the iPhone, iPad, and the Mac. Here’s what’s new.

Soulver 4 is a big one

To many long-time Apple users, including at 9to5mac, Soulver has been part of the basic productivity toolset for years.

While its core functionality lets users perform calculations in a natural-language notepad, Soulver has evolved into a far more powerful and versatile app, growing alongside its users’ needs.

Following the launch of Soulver 3 for iPhone in 2024, the now-universal app has been updated to Soulver 4, bringing more than 50 improvements.

Soulver 4 includes a new trip-planning workflow that lets users map out multi-stage itineraries, calculate how long they will spend in each destination, and see whether the overall plan fits within their available time.

Soulver will calculate the total length of your trip, show the dates spent in each place, and alert you if you’ve exceeded your time budget for your trip

The update also introduces new tag lines with hashtags (#work, #home, etc), and can perform statistical calculations on all lines that include a specific tag.

Additionally, Soulver 4 has a completely redesigned command line interface which is now friendlier to AI agents. It a now edit Soulver sheets, as well as sheetbook files.

For example you might ask Codex or Claude to create a Soulver sheet for you that includes data it can input itself

For users who rely on Soulver’s natural-language functions and units for calculations, the update greatly expands support across areas including finance, geography, file transfers, physics, chemistry, electrical measurements, vehicles, music, pace, and even woodworking with rounding to fractions.

Other tidbits include new calendar calculation features, redesigned Mac settings, a free HTML emailing service, a new cursor pad on the iPhone, line highlighting and divider lines, and much more.

Soulver 4 costs $59 as a one-time purchase and comes with a 60-day free trial. This marks the app’s first paid upgrade in seven years, with Soulver 3 users eligible for a 50% discount. The new version is also available through Setapp.
