In the latest executive overhaul, Adrian Perica is getting his merger and acquisition responsibilities offloaded to long-time lieutenant Steve Smith.
A new CEO takes over, and roles shift. It's effectively a fact of American business. The latest shuffle is a slight reorganization, with mergers and acquisitions moving to a new person.
According to a report on Thursday by Bloomberg, Steve Smith is Apple's new M&A head. Smith was formerly Apple's Senior Director of Corporate Development.
Formerly, Adrian Perica held that responsibility, as part of his overall role which incorporates Services management. Reportedly, Perica will just be focusing on iCloud, Fitness+, and News going forward.
Related, Apple is promoting Carson Oliver to vice president of the App Store.
These moves do not seem like major shake-ups. Perica isn't going anywhere, and Smith served with Perica for a long time.
Oliver's move has more do to with Phil Schiller's stepping back from the day-to-day than anything else.
And, Thursday's report speculates that Perica's shift puts him in a better position to take over Eddy Cue's responsibilities in whole or in part.
In the meantime, Perica still reports to Cue.
