This new title is the first major release in the franchise since 2024’s Echoes of Wisdom, which starred Princess Zelda herself. Echoes followed 2023’s Tears of the Kingdom, a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild — both of which got upgraded Switch 2 versions alongside the launch of the new console last year. In November, Nintendo also launched the hack-and-slash title Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment.
Like with Super Mario, Nintendo is starting to seriously look at taking the Zelda franchise beyond games, too, with a live-action movie set to debut on April 30th, 2027. Late last year, the company shared a few images of stars Bo Bragason (Zelda) and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Link) in costume, and their outfits suggest the film will take cues from titles like Breath of the Wild and Twilight Princess.
