Apple has just released the first developer beta for tvOS 27, the next major software version for Apple TV 4K. Here’s what to expect.

Apple releases first developer beta of tvOS 27

Today Apple unveiled its next-generation software for Apple TV 4K users: tvOS 27, which is detailed here.

The update was introduced—just barely—as part of Apple’s WWDC keynote.

And now, anyone eager to try out the latest software in advance of its public launch can install the beta version.

tvOS 27 beta 1 is available now for Apple TV 4K. You can find the update inside the Settings app under the ‘Beta Updates’ section of Software Update.

Currently, only the developer beta is available. Apple says that tvOS 27’s public beta will arrive in July—likely early in the month.

But as of a few years ago, anyone can download and install Apple’s developer betas. You no longer have to be part of the paid developer program.

That said, the first developer beta of a major new software version usually includes a variety of bugs that you may not want to deal with. As such, Apple intends the software be used only for testing and development purposes, and not on primary devices.
