Despite not getting much airtime during today’s WWDC keynote, visionOS 27 is bringing several new features to Apple Vision Pro, including a new Environment from the Icelandic highlands. Here are the details.
Apple Vision Pro to get new Thórsmörk Environment
During today’s WWDC keynote, Apple mentioned visionOS 27 a few times, including when it announced that users will be able to turn their spatial photos into spatial scenes.
However, one visionOS 27 addition that didn’t get any airtime was Thórsmörk, a new immersive Environment coming to Apple Vision Pro.
Environments, according to Apple, “let you transform your physical surroundings into a different place — like Yosemite, Mount Hood or the Moon. You can use Environments while you’re using apps like Mail, Safari and more.”
Last year, visionOS 26 introduced a new Jupiter Environment, developed in collaboration with NASA, that takes users to the surface of Amalthea, one of Jupiter’s inner moons.
With visionOS 27, Apple Vision Pro users will be able to activate the Thórsmörk Environment and immerse themselves in the Icelandic highlands, northern lights and all.
The new Thórsmörk Environment features a lake surrounded by mountains. When users watch a video, especially with dark appearance turned on, the entire scene, including the snow and the water, reacts to the colors shown on the screen for an added immersive effect.
