WhatsApp is fixing one of its most annoying iPhone quirks: endless scrolling through channels just to find a post. WhatsApp is now rolling out in-channel search to iPhone, which means you can type a keyword and jump straight to the update instead of hunting for it manually.

If you follow a channel that posts often, you already know the pain. Updates pile up fast, and until now, finding an old one on your iPhone meant scrolling back post by post. Now, your iPhone can search channels just the way it goes through your regular chats.

WhatsApp Channel search fixes a major iPhone annoyance

WhatsApp channels are not like group chats. There are no threads, no jumping to “unread”, and no way to search by participant; it’s just a continuous stream of posts from the admin.

The structure works just fine for a channel that posts a few times a month, but it quickly falls apart for those who post regularly. Without a way to search, the only way one could find an old post was to scroll manually through everything posted ever since.

How to search a channel on iPhone

WABetaInfo first spotted the new feature, and the way it works is pretty simple. Open any channel, tap on its name to open the info screen, and you will see a search button. Just type in a keyword, and results will instantly populate with arrow buttons that take you directly to matches.

WhatsApp also added a date-jump option in case you want to open a post from the channel’s history. This is useful if you remember when something was posted but forgot what it said.

Why did it take this long?

Android users have had channel search since January 2025, which translates to more than a year before the iPhone got it. WhatsApp was spotted testing the feature on iOS last year, only to shelve it later.

The app has a long history of treating Android as the primary platform, with iPhone being an afterthought, and this is just the latest example.

Search makes Channel management easier

Paired with WhatsApp’s channel reply feature, the new search feature allows admins to dig up an old post in seconds and reply to it directly. Like everyone else, admins had to manually scroll back through their channels’ history, but there’s no need for that now.

The feature is currently rolling out with WhatsApp version 26.24.72 on the App Store, but not everyone will get it immediately. If you don’t have it yet, update WhatsApp to the newest version and check back in the next few days.
