After adding three MacBook models to its obsolete products list last month, Apple today updated its vintage products list to include the 2019 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display. Here are the details.
iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2019) now vintage worldwide
Apple maintains a list of vintage and obsolete products, which lets users know whether older devices are still eligible for hardware service and replacement parts.
The company considers a product vintage once it has been off the market for more than five but less than seven years. Products may become obsolete once Apple has stopped distributing them for more than seven years.
Apple doesn’t necessarily move products to the obsolete list as soon as they cross that threshold, as service and parts availability can vary by product. That said, once a product is classified as obsolete, Apple and its authorized service providers generally stop offering hardware service for it, and parts can no longer be ordered.
Today, the company added the iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2019) to its vintage products list, which means it may still be eligible for hardware service and replacement parts, but they’re subject to availability.
In practice, if you own this iMac and have been putting off a repair, it might be a good idea to get it serviced sooner rather than later.
