Apple's two exclusive cases for the upcoming iPhone Duo offer different levels of protection, though the folio-style is sure going to be a fan favorite. Here's what they look like, and how they work.

Apple always releases a few first-party cases with new iPhone models. For iPhone 18 Pro, Apple has a series of silicone cases, TechWoven cases, and a clear case.

For the forthcoming iPhone Duo, Apple has two choices. There is a simple plastic case and a stylish folio one that will both be available at launch.

As a new form factor, third-party cases will be more scarce than in recent years. These Apple cases are likely going to be the go-to options for early adopters until accessory makers catch up.

Apple iPhone Duo Case

The most basic option direct from Apple is the aptly-named Apple iPhone Duo Case. It's a very simple case with a two-piece design to cover the back panel and the front edges.

It attaches the phone magnetically and seems to hold in place well. Apple used a polycarbonate plastic for this case with a matte finish on the outside.

Sand-colored case for iPhone Duo

The Apple iPhone Duo Case comes in two colors, a dark navy blue and a light sand. These complement the dark and light colors that the iPhone Duo comes in.

Apple thought through the whole experience here, and it's cool to see how even the cases match Apple's stock dessert wallpapers. The iPhone Duo comes in both Night Sky and Dark Sky and has a night and day images of a dessert as the default wallpaper.

Trying it out, the case seems protective enough for what it is, even with the hinge exposed. It just feels on the cheap side for what it's priced at.

You can pick it up from Apple for $79 when the iPhone Duo goes on order.

Apple iPhone Duo Folio

Easily the more interesting of the two is the Apple iPhone Duo Folio. This is a one-piece case that covers the back panel as wells the front one.

Unlike the regular case, this one does not protect the sides, but the hinge gets covered. The hinge cover is elastic, and as you open and close the folio it extends and retracts to cover the hinge.

It also connects magnetically and supports MagSafe. The back has a kickstand that extends out to prop up the phone and MagSafe charging works from either side of that stand.

While other iPhone models need to be connected to power, iPhone Duo can go into StandBy mode when propped up and stationary. It makes a great desk companion thanks to the folio.

The iPhone Duo Folio uses Apple's TechWoven material for added grip and texture, but unlike the TechWoven cases for iPhone 18 Pro, it doesn't have plastic sides. Still, Apple says it is vigorously tested and "built to protect your iPhone from scratches and drops."

This is easily one of the best-looking cases Apple has made and I love the two colorways Apple has chosen. Again, we have light and dark versions, taupe and navy blue.

The Apple iPhone Duo Folio will be available through Apple for $129.
